Pretty Woman Theatre Review @ Savoy Theatre!

Photo taken by myself.

This pretty woman has walked straight down the street into London Savoy Theatre until January 2023. This sensational new musical is based on one of Hollywood’s most beloved romantic stories of all time. Staring the amazing and talented Aimie Atkinson as our leading lady Vivian Ward, this is one musical you are not wanting to miss.

About the show

Vivian is a working girl in Hollywood who receives an offer she cannot refuse from Edward. What starts as just a job turns into an unlikely love story. This performance contains all the moments you have come to love from the movie with a star dazzlingly comedic twist. This show has been brought to life by a powerhouse creative team representing the best of music, Hollywood and Broadway.

Cast and crew

All the cast and crew put on an amazing performance in this theoretical production. The leading lady Aimie Atkinson (Six the musical, from the band SVN) is phenomenal in her performance as Vivian Ward. Her onstage presence lit up the whole theatre and in her reminiscence, she brought the character to life. Besides Aimie, my other favourite character is Bob Harms who portrays Mr Thompson. His standout performance as the soft-hearted hotel manager (&happy man) did steal the show. He is a brilliant performer in both roles that he played. A big shoutout to the ridiculously hilarious Bellhop/Porter Guilio who was played by Alex Charles. He was a great character and captivated the audience every time he came on with his comedic twist to the role. Jerry Mitchell, a two-time Tony Award winner helped with the direction of pretty women the musical and choreography. Grammy award winner Bryan Adams and Jimmy Vallance with the music and a book by the movie’s legendary director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J.F. Lawton.

Final thoughts

While I did enjoy this musical it is not something I would go see again in a hurry. I loved the humour and the cast was phenomenal vocally, especially Aimie Atkinson but I do find there are other theatre productions I would rather see. In this performance there are some elevated scenes, if you’re sitting towards the back of the stalls you might get an obscured view however it is only for a short scene.

The Savoy Theatre is quite small and I found it to be very packed in the halls, perhaps they could have opened the theatre doors sooner and restricted how many people entered at one time. It was warm that day too which did not help. I have a hidden disability and found this to be very overwhelming, I have an access card (proof of disability) which I showed to A member of staff and they were incredibly helpful. If you love the movie or fancy seeing something different, watching Vivian‘s and Edward’s Love story on the stage is something you are not wanna miss.

This production is now booking until January 2023, it is going to be difficult to let go of something so beautiful. For more information on tickets please click here
